Malegra 120 mg is marketed as a sildenafil-based product for erectile dysfunction (ED). Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor that increases blood flow by relaxing blood vessels during sexual stimulation. Because it can also lower blood pressure temporarily, its cardiovascular effects are important to consider.
There is no established evidence that appropriately prescribed sildenafil causes long-term damage to the heart in otherwise suitable patients. Cardiovascular guidance also notes that PDE5 inhibitors can generally be used in men with stable cardiovascular disease when sexual activity itself is considered safe. However, studies suggesting possible cardiovascular benefits are largely observational and do not prove that sildenafil prevents heart disease.
The important issue with Malegra 120 mg is the dose. Standard prescribing information for sildenafil used for ED recommends a maximum of 100 mg once daily. A 120 mg product therefore exceeds that usual maximum and should not be used without specific medical supervision.
Sildenafil must not be taken with nitrate medicines, such as nitroglycerin, because the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Men with unstable angina, recent serious cardiovascular events, uncontrolled hypertension, or significant hypotension require medical assessment before using sildenafil.
