Kitchen Storage Problem & Their Solutions

  • The most working and extensively used area in any house is the kitchen. From cooking, cleaning, storing utensils, crockery, food items, appliances and so on, the kitchen has to take many functions. Considering these functions, the most common issue has been faced is the lack of storage area. From storing utensils to dry grocery, space issues within the kitchen is something you have to take care. So, in this article let’s look at some problems and solutions on how to tackle this common kitchen storage problem.

    • Firstly, if you have L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens, the corners usually get wasted because they are hard to reach. So to solve this and to easily access this corner area, you can install U-shaped cabinets, V-shaped corner drawers or opt for corner carousel units with multiple designs, this might help to avoid hard-to-reach corners in your kitchen.

    • The major issue comes if the kitchen is not well- organised. Unorganised mess becomes difficult to locate things in your kitchen. Buy & arrange different sizes of transparent containers in height-wise so that their contents are easy to view. Keep a rotating spice rack for storing all the spices and label all the steel containers so to identify ingredients easily. Give a designated place for specific kitchen items and make sure to keep them back after use.

    • No space for pots and pans and for overhead cabinets is another figured issue. Installing a pegboard on a vacant wall or a backsplash to hang pots and pans & including differently-sized drawers for keeping cutlery and the deeper ones for storing bigger utensils. Introducing drawer pull-outs within the cabinet to convert the base cabinets of the kitchen.

    • Lack of storage space seems another issue for kitchen space. Adding storage can achieve space by extending the overhead cabinets up to the ceiling. It is best suited for keeping extra and seldomly used kitchen items. Include a compact kitchen island, if space permits, for accommodating extra storage. At times, it can double up as a multifunctional dining or breakfast table.

    •  Covered countertops are bad for the kitchen. Adding a trolley to the kitchen so it can accommodate large and small kitchen items results countertop being free. Also, include a tall unit for keeping multiple storage items like utensils, crockery and grocery, if the space seems limited. The space between the countertop and the overhead cabinets can be used for suspending ladles, spatula, knives and smaller utensils. Including modular kitchen accessories like spice racks, spoon holders, bottle racks, cutlery trays and so on seems to be one of the best ways to declutter the countertop.

    • Open shelves on the backsplash would be helpful for keeping the frequently-used kitchen ingredients and the window sill for storing canisters and other items. Keep a specific cabinet for keeping  kitchen appliances.

    • No space for cleaning supplies is another problem seen in kitchens for storage space. There would be vacant space below the kitchen sink which can be used to solve to store cleaning supplies. It is ideal for introducing different types of under-sink accessories and supplies below the kitchen sink.
