Text and lettering can be engraved, embossed, silkscreened printed, rubbed on, and other techniques depending on the manufacturing process and material being used. There are a plethora of possibilities.

    However, putting words on a page is not always as simple as it appears. While each method of adding text has its own set of advantages, each method also has its own set of rules that must be followed in order for it to function properly.

    Over the course of several years, junying has been adding text to a variety of different parts using a variety of different methods. So here are some guidelines for including words, letters, and numbers in your parts and prototypes that you should keep in mind when designing.

    CNC Machining (Computer Numerical Control)

    Using a cnc milling, it is possible to add lettering to a machined part, whether it is made of metal or plastic. There are, however, some guidelines that must be followed when doing so.

    For precision CNC applications, the first thing to consider is whether text should be engraved (which means cut into the surface of the part) or embossed (which means it sticks out from the surface).

    While embossed text can sometimes be easier to read than engraved text, it is usually preferable to use engraved text because it requires less material to be removed from the workpiece, which saves both time and money in the long run.
